Five persons, including two women and an Iraqi national, were killed and four others injured in a suicide bomb blast at UN’s World Food Programme office here on Monday.

“Preliminary investigation shows that the bomber had disguised in the uniform of paramilitary Frontier Constabulary,” Interior Minister Rehman Malik said, adding: “The assailant had slipped into inner sections of the heavily guarded building on pretext of going to the toilet where he planted a bomb.”

SSP Tahir Alam said the security arrangements were satisfactory at the WFP office, but added: “It was a well planned blast”. He also stated that the nature of blast still could not be confirmed.

The minister said some people, including the guards, had been arrested for interrogation and general instructions had been issued to all law enforcing agencies expressing apprehensions that the terrorists might pose as soldiers or policemen to execute their bombing plans. A probe has been ordered to ascertain why these instructions were not followed at the WFP building.

Malik said the terrorists had been dealt a fatal blow in the Swat valley and were also on the run in tribal areas. “However, like a wounded snake they may strike here or there occasionally,” he said.
