Patna, October 3
With the arrest of seven named accused, including the mastermind, the police has claimed to have made a breakthrough in the massacre in which 16 persons, including five minors, were killed two days ago in Bihar’s Khagaria district.

ADG of Police (Headquarters) Neelmani said 37 persons were named in the FIR lodged in connection with this mass murder. The police has already arrested seven of them, including O P Mahto, the alleged mastermind of the ghastly incident. Eight more suspects were detained today for interrogation.

“The police is probing the case with an open mind and at the moment it cannot be said with certainty whether it was purely Naxal violence or an organised crime to grab land,” Neelmani said. On his return from the spot, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi also expressed doubts about involvement of Naxals in the incident.
