Does it make the grade?
Nonika Singh
takes a look at the new CBSE grading system that has thrown up a plethora of questions in the mind of all concerned – students, parents and teachers
Welcome to the new world of education that has parents on tenterhooks, teachers apprehensive and the school authorities a trifle lost, if not completely clueless, about the new reforms Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal has ushered in recently. The minister has claimed that these education reforms will do for our education system what economic reforms have done for the Indian economy. More than 11,000 CBSE-affiliated schools, by 2011 onwards, will have no Class X board examination, instead they will have a grading system (for Classes IX and X) and the CCE (for Class IX) from this year.

Yugratna’s clarion call
Shahira Naim catches up with this 13-year-old from Lucknow, who at a recent UN Summit urged the world leaders to sit up and react to climate change immediately
Like any other 13-year-old, Yugratna Srivastava enjoys listening to Hindi film music and watching films. In fact, she made it a point to watch Dil Bole Haddipa, soon after returning to Lucknow after addressing the Summit on Climate Change at the United Nations at New York recently.
