US aid to Pak comes with ‘accountability’ rider
Legislation that triples US aid to Pakistan authorises military assistance to help the country in its fight against Al-Qaida and other terrorists, but it also includes new and painstakingly negotiated accountability measures to ensure that this aid is not misused. India had expressed concern that Pakistan would divert US military aid toward bolstering its defences against a perceived threat from India.

India cannot sign NPT since it is discriminatory
The UN Security Council presided over by President Obama has adopted unanimously resolution 1887 on nonproliferation which among various measures calls on states not party to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) to join it. There are only three countries outside the NPT --India, Pakistan and Israel.

Unveiling its immediate plans on security of Indian air space, the IAF today said mountain-specific radars and sensors will be placed alongside line of control (LAC) with China in the Ladakh region while front-line long-range fighter aircraft Sukhoi-30 will patrol skies over Punjab and J&K besides the North-East.

JuD chief not under arrest: Pak top cop

The chief of Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) Hafiz Mohd Saeed, blamed by India for masterminding the Mumbai attacks, is not under arrest or protective custody, a top police official has said amid contradictory reports about his status in the run-up to Sunday's Indo-Pak Foreign Ministers' meeting.

Hawala racket worth Rs 5,000 cr busted
New Delhi, September 25
The Enforcement Directorate has claimed to have busted a hawala racket involving more than Rs 5,000 crore and seized incriminating documents during raids at eight premises belonging to NRI businessman Naresh Jain. The raids were conducted yesterday.

The Central Information Commission (CIC) has ruled that the information about ailments of the Prime Minister cannot be given under the Right to Information (RTI) Act as it is personal in nature and disclosure will be an invasion of privacy. However, it ruled, the expenses incurred on the treatment should be disclosed since these were made from the exchequer.
