The Punjab Governor will not hold additional charge as the Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh, the Union Home Ministry has decided.

Noida businessman Moninder Singh Pandher was today acquitted for want of evidence in one of the infamous Nithari serial killing cases by the Allahabad High Court which upheld the death sentence handed down to his domestic help Surinder Koli, describing him as a "menace to the society".

Take policies to masses, SAD leaders told

After daylong deliberations on the inaugural day of the “Punjab Vichar Sammelan”, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has taken several important administrative decisions in principle that will be implemented after consultation with its alliance partner — the BJP. These include a review and probe into irregularities in the implementation of the “atta-dal” and pension schemes. The issue of other subsidies is not on the agenda.

Cops get bail in Shopian case
Srinagar, September 11
For police officials arrested for allegedly destroying evidence in the Shopian rape-and-murder case were granted bail by the high court today.

Pak fires rockets into border areas
Dhanoa (Indo-Pak border), September 11
As many as three rockets were fired into the Indian territory from across the border, which landed and exploded in fields of Modhe and Khacha villages on the Indo-Pak border at around 10 pm tonight. However, no casualty was reported in the incident.

SC tells Maya to stop work at memorials

Warning the Uttar Pradesh government against "playing with fire," the Supreme Court today directed the state to immediately stop work at Kanshiram and other memorials and statues at Lucknow and evict all workforce, excepting the watch and ward staff, within six hours.

Basmati prices shoot up
Chandigarh, September 11
Inflation is in the negative but that hardly appears to be affecting the prices of essential food items, especially rice. The price of basmati rice has shot up by Rs 17 a kg over the past three days, while that of the non-basmati variant has shown an increase of Rs 5 per kg.
