Heavy rains lash Delhi

New Delhi, August 21
Torrential rains that lashed the national Capital today, made everything standstill, including air traffic as well as surface traffic.

Falling of trees, water logging and traffic jams could be seen everywhere in the Capital. Flights out of Delhi were either rescheduled or cancelled today evening. It also damaged a portion of the new domestic terminal building at IGI Airport. Power break had also been reported from various areas. A large number of trees fell down and water entered a few matro stations also. Sewers were also seen chocked.

Control said due to sudden downpour this evening forced to first divert all incoming flights. All airlines have been advised to hold outgoing flights till the condition improves, he said. He said a small portion of the roof above Terminal 1D caved in during the downpour. Luckily no one had been injured. The Kingfisher Airlines through an SMS informed that flight number IT 205 Lucknow to Delhi was diverted to Lucknow, IT 3334 Guwahati to Delhi was diverted to Lucknow and IT 653 Goa-Delhi diverted to Jaipur.
