DMK supremo’s pro-Prabhakaran remark unwelcome to Congress

The LTTE issue today threatened to strain the relations between the Congress and the DMK, with the Congress rejecting Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's assertion that LTTE chief Velupillai Prabhakaran was a "good friend" and "not a terrorist".

No regrets speaking against Advani: PM
Guwahati/New Delhi, April 19
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said he did not regret having hit back at LK Advani as the BJP leader had been indulging in "mudslinging" for the last five years. And at the same time, he said, he did not want to "prolong this match" after his reply to charges.

Hardline cleric Sufi Muhammad, who played a key role in enforcing Islamic law in Pakistan’s restive northwestern Swat valley, today said there is no room for democracy in Islam and it contravenes the Quran.

An FIR has been filed against BSP’s high profile Lucknow candidate Akhilesh Das for making “inappropriate remarks” against rival Samajwadi Party candidate Nafisa Ali. Disclosing this, Election Commissioner SY Quraishi said the case had been registered under IPC Section 171 G that pertains to false statement in connection with an election.
