India shocked, sad, worried and watchful
New Delhi, March 30
The terrorist attack on the police training centre at Manavan near Lahore, which is just 12km from the Wagah border, has India deeply worried even as it closely monitors the worsening security situation in Pakistan. Foreign secretary Shiv Shankar Menon, however, ruled out the resumption of the composite dialogue process with Pakistan until the neighbouring country dismantled the terrorist infrastructure and punished those behind the Mumbai attacks.

Punjab loses a statesman
Manpreet Singh Badal

In the death of Captain Kanwaljit Singh, Punjab has lost a statesman, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has lost a visionary, and I have lost a guide. I remember the day when I was contesting elections for the first time. At Gidderbaha, during that fateful election, the counting for the byelection results was on. After the fifth round of the counting, I was trailing behind the Congress candidate. Capt Kanwaljit Singh came out of the booth with tears in his eyes. The tears did not seem to stop and I rushed forward to meet him.

Editorial: A gentleman, even in politics
