each other in public though both sides stopped short of severing

officially released a list of its candidates to contest for the
13 Lok Sabha seats from Punjab. The list includes two sitting
members of the Lok Sabha, two sitting MLAs, the president of
Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee and a defector from Shiromani
Akali Dal. Two women figure in the list.

channels, including Fastway, which have been accused of
telecasting news programmes in violation of law were taken off
air today even as the Punjab Chief Electoral Officer asked the
Post Master General to determine whether they were running in
violation of broadcasting norms.

war to remain under wraps CIC turns down appeal
to make Henderson Brooks report public New Delhi, March 21
The Central Information
Commission (CIC) has turned down the appeal of former MP Kuldip
Nayar for making the analysis of the 1962 India-China war,
brought out in the Henderson Brooks report, public. A bench of
Chief Information Commissioner Wajahat Habibullah and
Information Commissioner M.L. Sharma today ruled that the
analysis would remain confidential at this stage as it contains
sensitive information over which the stance of the Ministry of
Defence (MoD) till date has been that it cannot be declassified.
Grenades
smuggled in LPG cylinders seized Jammu, March 21
After a gap of over four
years, militants from across the border have started using empty
and improvised LPG cylinders to smuggle arms and ammunition,
particularly Chinese grenades, into the country. A joint column
of the Army and the police have foiled this latest bid to
smuggle arms and ammunition from across the LoC to Mendhar
district where two such cylinders have been seized.

IPL Googly Avoiding

The Indian Premier League has
avoided matches on poll days in its revised schedule but it may not be
enough to get them the security clearance with Home Minister P
Chidambaram saying there could still be “problems” during the event.
Chidambaram said the IPL organisers will also have to take into account
the election dates of not only the states where matches are bing held
but also the neighbouring ones.
