Varun issue: BJP sails in two boats
New Delhi, March 20
On a day when BJP’s Pilibhit candidate Varun Gandhi was running around the courts and the Election Commission explaining his communal utterances during the election campaign, the party found itself simultaneously sailing in two boats today. While it disowned the alleged utterances in its reply to the EC, the party continued to assert that “Varun Gandhi is our candidate and naturally he will be issued the lotus symbol by the party,” asserted BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar.

A correction
In the report, “Hidden cam exposed Varun”, published yesterday, the complainant V.M. Singh has been described as the sitting MLA. He is actually a former MLA. The error is regretted.
