RJD-LJP pact makes Congress fume
Lalu, Paswan leave 3 seats for their ally in Bihar

New Delhi, March 17
The UPA coalition in Bihar today appeared to be in trouble after the RJD and LJP divided 37 of the total 40 Lok Sabha seats between themselves and the dissatisfied Congress announcing to contest as many seats as possible. Ignoring the Congress’ demand for 11 seats, the two left only three constituencies for their bigger ally in the UPA. RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav and LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan celebrate their seat-sharing arrangement in Delhi on Tuesday.

FIR lodged against Varun
Lucknow/New Delhi, March 17
While a formal signal is still awaited from the Election Commission in New Delhi, the Pilibhit district administration has gone ahead to lodge an FIR against BJP candidate Varun Gandhi for spreading enmity. Addressing a public meeting at Barkeda in Pilibhit on March 8, Varun Gandhi, the son of sitting Pilibhit MP and former Union minister Maneka Gandhi and late Sanjay Gandhi, had allegedly made inflammatory remarks against Muslims, which were aired by local Hindi news channels.

No let-up in BJP crisis
Jaitley, Yeddyurappa skip party meeting
New Delhi, March 17
Problems kept mounting for the BJP with Arun Jaitley continuing to boycott the Central Election Committee meeting for selecting party candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls for the second day here today. Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa also stayed away from the meeting, apparently annoyed at being ignored in selection of candidates from his state.

Sudhanshu an enigma

Uma backs Advani as PM
New Delhi, March 17
In a U-turn, Bhartiya Janshakti Party leader Uma Bharti has now come in support of the prime ministerial candidature of L K Advani whom she had been attacking ever since her exit from BJP three years ago. Bharti, who left BJP accusing Advani of partisan behaviour, has addressed the letter to the former Deputy Prime Minister, but has sent it to party president Rajnath Singh.

Getting voter I-card an ordeal
Jalandhar, March 17
Climbing the stairs of the district administrative complex (DAC) for the fifth time in three hours, I realised the ordeal of a common person in procuring a voter I-card. The thought that there is a vast difference between the appeals of the government to go in for the cards and the working of the babus, who actually prepare them, also crossed my mind.
