Dozen suspects arrested; reward of $1,25,000 announced for info on assailants
Sri Lankan cricket team captain Mahela Jayawardene walks out of the Colombo airport terminal along with his wife Christina Sirisena on Wednesday.Police in Lahore has arrested around dozen suspects (24 according to PTI) in connection with Tuesday’s brazen assault on Sri Lankan cricket team, even as the team of highly professional investigators is yet to make any significant breakthrough in the case.

In an expected development, the government today appointed Navin Chawla as the Chief Election Commissioner with effect from April 20, 2009, the day present incumbent N Gopalaswami ends his tenure. Chawla, an Indian Administrative Service officer of the 1969 batch, will hold charge till July 29, 2010.

RBI slashes rates
Mumbai, March 4
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today announced a 50 basis points reduction in repo and reverse repo rates as part of efforts to moderate the cost of borrowing by a slowing economy. In an announcement made late this evening, the RBI said it was reducing the repo rate by 50 basis points from 5.5 per cent to 5.0 per cent.
