With Pakistan’s flip-flop on Mumbai carnage continuing, India today dismissed with contempt the reported statement of Islamabad’s envoy to Britain Shamshul Hasan that the terror attack was not planned on the Pakistani soil. Top government sources said New Delhi was weighing the pros and cons of approaching the United Nations to seek a ban on more Pakistan-based bodies for indulging in terrorist activities.

Lt Cols to get higher pay

The pay-related issue of Lieutenant Colonels has finally been resolved. The Ministry of Defence is to issue instructions that would enable most of the Lt Colonels to get an enhanced pay band-IV status. Only a minuscule number of officers, who are on deputation to public sector organisations, will not be eligible for the new status.

Canter runs over 10 labourers, 5 killed
Mandi Gobindgarh, January 30
In a tragic incident, a canter (mini-truck) ran over 10 labourers near Ajnali village on GT Road, killing five of them and leaving other five seriously injured. The injured are undergoing treatment at the local civil hospital. The incident took place this morning around 7:30 am when all the 10 labourers, who were employees of a pipe manufacturing unit in town, were returning after completing their night shifts.

US First Lady Michelle Obama is believed to be pregnant and expecting her third child, a media report in Britain said today. America is buzzing with hope that the 45-year-old wife of country’s first Black President Barack Obama will soon give birth to a “White House baby”, barely two weeks after his official inauguration, the ‘Daily Star’ reported. On the lam for 20 years and wanted in many states for “heinous” crimes, Jaggan says he longs to live with Komesh Gujjar, his lady love, who is in police custody since November ’08. Police officials on his trail say Jaggan has spoken to a TV channel and has also approached some of them saying he would give up if he got Komesh.
