As fresh revelations emerged in the Satyam Computers fraud case, a local court here today extended the police custody of the disgraced former chairman B Ramalinga Raju and former chief financial officer V Srinivas by a day to facilitate further questioning.

Uninterrupted power supply, ensured by the state yesterday ostensibly to let the people witness the “sonrise” at Amritsar, proved to be a one-day wonder with the state remaining powerless for several hours during the day. Things were back to “normal” this morning with the PSEB reverting to its load-shedding schedule with people raising a hue and cry.

Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani today wished Prime Minister Manmohan Singh good health by sending him a bouquet and a get-well message. The PM was, meanwhile, discharged from AIIMS early in the morning and was back at work from his 7, Race Course residence office.

A special MCOCA court today upheld invoking of tough MCOCA against the 11 arrested accused, including Lt Col Prasad Purohit and sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, in Malegaon blast case saying there was prima facie evidence against them of having aided, abetted and conspired to commit criminal activities.

Pak: We gave blank cheque to China on

Islamabad, January 22
Foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said Pakistan had given a "blank cheque" to China authorising it to negotiate with India on its behalf to deal with the aftermath of the Mumbai terrorist attacks. Speaking at a reception at the Chinese embassy here last night, Qureshi said he had told Chinese special envoy He Yafei to "go to Delhi and you have a blank cheque from us".

25-kg IED seized
Srinagar/Jammu, January 22
The police has nabbed two Harkat-ul Mujahideen militants, Aijaz Ahmad Lone and Hassan Mir, in Tral (south Kashmir) and seized Chinese grenades from them. Police sources said Lone and Mir were working as overground workers, sympathisers who helped active militants with logistical and other required support but did not indulge in killing themselves.

“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” a drama in which Brad Pitt plays a man who ages backward, led the field of Oscar contenders with 13 nominations, organisers said on Thursday. “Slumdog Millionaire,” the tale of an impoverished orphan’s improbable victory on an Indian television game show, followed with 10, while the Batman sequel “The Dark Knight” and the gay-rights saga “Milk” each landed eight.
