Lucknow, November 18
The three-month-long marriage of convenience between former external affairs minister K. Natwar Singh and the Bahujan Samaj Party came to an abrupt end today with the BSP expelling him from the party for indulging in anti-party activities.
In a press release, BSP national general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra charged the erstwhile senior Congress member of “indiscipline and lack of faith in the Bahujan Samaj movement.
Incidentally, the BSP decision came a day after Natwar Singh’s son Jagat was wooed by Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Scindhia to join the BJP after its heavyweight Jat leader Vishwendra Singh suddenly defected to the Congress.
Mishra charged Natwar Singh of joining the BSP in August this year with a Rajya Sabha nomination in mind. “When his request was categorically turned down on the plea that more senior and committed leaders from the party were to be given preference rather than opportunists or capitalists, he started indulging in indiscipline and anti-party activities.”
“Natwar Singh had been an active member of the Congress for a long time. At the time of his joining the BSP it had been explained to him that the BSP was unlike other political parties. It required complete faith in the BSP movement, the party’s policies and discipline,” added Mishra.
Natwar, along with his son Jagat Singh, had joined the BSP at the party’s national convention in Lucknow on August 9. Later, his son was also announced as the BSP Lok Sabha candidate from Jaipur.
