The Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) authorities have started collecting information in association with the department of school education under the SSA programme for a district information on school education (DISE) survey. The survey, to be conducted every year on September 30, would include various details about the school.

She reflects a rare combination of an upcoming Kathak danseuse and a budding technocrat. A second-year B.Tech student of the DAV Institute of Engineering and Technology, Asmita Puri has recently made a mark by winning the first prize in the classical dance competition at the PTU’s inter-zonal youth festival. She now has been selected to participate in the inter-university (north zone) youth festival to be held next month on the Panjab University campus.
To top this all, Asmita is the granddaughter of Shobha Koser, who has been a leading Kathak exponent of Jaipur Gharana and founder of the Pracheen Kala Kendra in Chandigarh.

80 pc respiratory diseases due to smoking: Experts
Jalandhar, November 18
World COPD Day was observed by health experts here today. Experts claimed that the disease was largely caused by smoking or consumption of tobacco. According to the Indian National Family Health Survey, the smoking prevalence in India is close to 30 per cent among males and 2.5 per cent in females. Smoking cause 80 per cent of the COPD cases.

Workshop to boost job prospects

Jalandhar, November 18
Lovely Professional University hosted an industry-academia interactive workshop “Enhancing employability” with collaborative efforts of the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and Aspire on Tuesday. Various representatives from the industry, the government and the CII were present on the occasion, including Punjab Infotech managing director R.K. Verma, CII director Col I.S. Gahlaut, Wipro BPO vice-president Alok Jain and Aspire Human Capital Management CEO Amit Bhatia. The programme aimed at finding practical ways to bridge the gap between the availability of human resources and employment avenues available so that proper utilisation of human resources can be ensured for greater inputs by the industry so as to enhance the curriculum as per the industrial requirements.
