Guwahati, November 3
Three Hindi-speaking traders were shot dead by suspected Karbi Longri North Cachar Hills Liberation Front (KLNLF) militants in Central Assam's Nagaon district today morning, the police said.

Assam police spokesman Bhaben Bez informed that a group of six suspected KLNLF extremists from neighbouring Karbi Anglong district descended upon Sukghani village under the Samoguri police station of Nagaon district and stormed into two houses in the village.

The ultras then brought out two members of a family and one from the other and shot them dead at the village square. Those killed were identified as Jogeswar Shah (55) and Mahesh Shah (60) and Paban Sarma (27). All of them were small traders in the area.

The tribal KLNLF militants keep the villagers along the border of Nagaon and Karbi Anglong districts on their toes through threat and extortion demands. The tribal ultras scare non-tribal people from the foothill area to grab their land.

The KLNLF has history of targeting Hindi-speaking population in Karbi Anglong hill district. The police informed that the outfit had links with the banned ULFA. A manhunt was launched in bordering areas between Karbi Anglong and Nagaon district by the security forces after the killings. The incident took place even after the government had sounded a red alert all over the state following Thursday’s serial blasts.
