Anti-India forces active in B’desh: Advani
Tribune News Service

Guwahati, October 31
BJP leader Lal Krishan Advani called upon the Central government to mount diplomatic pressure on neighbouring Bangladesh not to allow its soil to be used by anti-Indian forces to create terror in the country, as the serial blasts proved in Assam yesterday.

The BJP leader, who was in the city to take stock of the situation and visit all the three blast sites, told media persons that, “Yesterday’s blasts have confirmed once again that Bangladesh’s soil is being used for anti-India activities. The country needs unique laws to tackle the terror threat.”

“Based on police sources, newspapers have reported that blasts are the handiwork of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) based in Pakistan, Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HuJI) based in Bangladesh and the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), whose leaders have received shelter in Bangladesh has transformed itself from an insurgent group to a terrorist outfit sans objective, sans ideology and purpose. And therefore no condemnation of the ULFA is enough. I don’t exonerate ULFA only because they have denied responsibility for blasts,” Advani said.

The BJP leader said special diplomatic pressure must be exerted on Bangladesh to check anti-Indian activities on its soil and the government must show an attitude of zero tolerance to terrorism. Condemning the dastardly act of terror, Advani called upon the people to ventilate their anger over such act of terror and failure on part of the government to stop the same through their votes in the election.

“I hold both Central and state governments responsible for the failure to prevent such acts of terror. The kind of explosives used in yesterday’s blast was really disturbing. The Prime Minister has to tell the people how he will take up the challenge posed before the country by jehadi elements. The northeast needs special attention, especially when the Prime Minister represents Assam in the Rajya Sabha,” Advani said.

Criticising the UPA government for abrogating POTA, Advani said it was in defiance of the United Nations resolution for enacting special laws to counter terrorists’ threat. He demanded the revamping of the national intelligence infrastructure and an adequate legal system to deal with terrorism.

Meanwhile, opposition Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), which has observed a black day today in protest against the serial blasts, demanded the dismissal of the Congress-led government in Assam. “This Chief Minister (Tarun Gogoi) and his government shouldn’t be allowed to continue in office for even a day more in view of its utter failure to protect lives and property of people,” AGP president Chandra Mohan Patowary said.
