Is it the economic downturn? Maybe. But, compared to last week, more shoppers are now out in the market places of Dehradun. After all, Diwali is a celebration of triumph of good over evil. So whatever the odds, the spirit to celebrate has to show up. And it has, albeit belatedly.

Both wild and domestic animals have a tough time even as Diwali festivities reach their peak. While high sound levels scare the dogs and cattle, the tradition of sacrificing owls and white bats have put their nocturnal counterparts in danger.

Air & sound levels to be checked
The air quality monitoring meter at the clock tower will keep a tab on pollution levels. Dehradun, October 27
Even as Doonites prepare for Divali celebrations, Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board officials have started monitoring air and noise pollution levels in the capital city. The three-day round-the-clock monitoring has begun at the board’s three ambient air quality monitoring stations at Raipur road, Clock Tower and Nehru colony.
