Albeit the Mussoorie municipal authorities have got rid of the ‘simian terrorists’ who had been harassing the locals of this otherwise peaceful hill town, they have added to the problems of people in the capital city of Dehradun and adjoining areas.

Security beefed up for festive season

Keeping in mind the ongoing festive season, the Dehradun police has beefed up the security in the city. Elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure that no untoward incident occurs. This time more emphasis is being laid on the security due to the recent serial blasts in New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Jaipur.

The city markets today witnessed a rush of people out to purchase utensils and crockery on the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras. “The sale has picked up today and we are hopeful that by tomorrow more and more people will throng our shops,” said Sushil Kumar Jain of Sushil departmental stores.

Fire brigade geared

The chief fire officer (CFO) C.K. Chakarvarty has said the fire brigade is all prepared to meet any exigency on Divali day. He said directions have already been issued to the staff to be on the alert.
