DD, AIR gear up for tercentenary celebrations

All India Radio is celebrating the tercentenary of Guruta Gaddi of Guru Granth Sahib and special programmes are being broadcast on national hook-up from October 24 to 30. The Jalandhar centre is celebrating the occasion by organising a sarb-Hind trilingual kavi darbar entitled “Mahima Sri Guru Granth Sahib Di”, on the evening of October 25 from 9 pm. The kavi darbar would have recitations in Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu. Eminent poets like Rajish Reddy, Laxmi Shankar Vajpayee, Shankuntala Srivastava, Wahid Ali Wahid, M.F. Farooqi, Sardar Panchi, Prof Waseem Bareillvi and Dr Som Thakur will render their poetic compositions.

Bid to promote education among girls

The management of State Public School has announced a concession of Rs 1,000 in admission to girl children in any of its schools in the city. President of the management Dr Narotam Singh said since the public school education was rapidly becoming a costly affair and a majority of the people could not afford quality education, therefore this decision would help many parents to bring their girl children for education in public schools.

50-yr-old man found murdered

In a blind murder, rickshaw-puller Rampal (50) was found murdered at a house in Chahal Nagar here. The man had been temporarily living at an incomplete house of NRI Santokh Singh for the past some time after some dispute with his family which is staying at the Santokhpura locality.
Get your tenants registered before Dec 15

Enforcing sections 144 of the
CrPC, the district magistrate has asked residents to get their domestic helps and tenants registered with the police before December 15. Hoteliers and owners of industrial units have also been told to sumbit the list of their workforce along with photographs and complete residential addresses at their respective polices stations. The move is being undertaken to curb the criminal activities in the district.
