Hectic talks in US
Admn officials in contact with key Cong leaders
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, September 9
There is a strong possibility of India and the US signing the 123 agreement to operationalise the nuclear deal during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to the US later this month.

US ambassador to India David C Mulford, talking to the media here today, said the 123 agreement was expected to be presented before the US Congress in the next few days for approval of the House.

Senior Bush administration officials were now consulting key leaders of Congress with regard to introduction of the agreement in the House.

Singh is to leave for New York in the third week of September to attend the UN General Assembly meet. He is also likely to travel to Washington for a meeting with President George W Bush.

Mulford indicated that the civil-nuclear cooperation understanding, reached between the leaders of India and the US during Manmohan Singh’s visit to Washington in July 2005, could soon fructify.
