Kolkata/Singur, September 1
Talking the language of peace, Trinamool Congress today asked West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi to take the initiative for talks for an 'immediate end' to Singur impasse.
"We would like the honourable Governor, who talked to us yesterday, to take the initiative for talks on Singur issue in which we will take part since we want an immediate solution to the issue," TC chief Mamata Banerjee told a gathering of her party on the ninth day of her party's indefinite dharna here.
Her remarks came after senior Trinamool leader Partha Chatterjee met the Governor at Raj Bhavan in Kolkata earlier in the day. However, Mamata said though she favoured talks, it should centre around the issue of return of 400 acre to 'unwilling' farmers at Singur.
Alleging that Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee was not 'serious' about a solution to the issue, she asked the state government to ensure the resumption of normal work at the Tata Motors factory where there was no work for the fourth consecutive day.
Meanwhile, Bhattacharjee said he had a discussion with the Governor today about the letter he had sent to Mamata suggesting that she holds talks on the Singur crisis with a neutral mediator.
