Mush may move to his farmhouse
Afzal Khan writes from Islamabad

General Pervez Musharraf will get security he is entitled to as former President, adviser on interior Rehman Malik has said.

Musharraf vacated presidential office in the Army House, Rawalpindi Cantonment, after announcing his resignation yesterday, but is continuing to live in its residential quarters. He has been occupying the place since his elevation as army chief and preferred to keep the Army House even after shedding his uniform last November. Currently, the army has provided a contingent for Musharraf's security.

Army chief Gen Kayani has retained his official residence to which he had moved after becoming the ISI chief in 2004. The present ISI chief, Lt-Gen Nadeem Taj, is living in an apartment in Rawalpindi Cantonment.

Musharraf was given the guard of honour while leaving his office. General Kayani and some other senior generals separately called on him soon after he resigned. Musharraf insists he will not leave the country and is likely to move to his private farmhouse in Chak Shahzad in Islamabad’s suburbs, which is being renovated. Media reports say Musharraf will stay in the Army House for several more weeks till the renovation work is completed.

Meanwhile, TV channel Aaj reported quoting Saudi Embassy sources that Musharraf’s travel documents were presented to the embassy, which had granted him the visa. It is not clear whether he would return to Pakistan or move on to London or a US city from Saudi Arabia after performing Umra. He is also likely to call on Saudi monarch Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, who is believed to have played a crucial role in softening Nawaz Sharif’s opposition to letting Musharraf free without trial.
