SIMI activist arrested

Ahmedabad, July 27
An activist of the banned militant outfit, SIMI, was nabbed from the walled city area today in connection with yesterday’s blasts.

The police arrested Abdul Halim from Dani Limda area in the heart of the city. Halim, also wanted in the 2002 Gujarat riots case, had gone into hiding after the sectarian violence.

“There were reports that he was in hiding in Delhi and we had intimated the Delhi Police and the Crime Branch arrested him during a combing operation,” Ahmedabad JCP Ashish Bhatia said. — PTI

TN arrest

Tiruneleveli: The City Police today arrested a suspect here for possessing IED and other explosive materials, meant for producing bombs.

City police commissioner Manjunatha said acting on a special intelligence report, they arrested S. Shiek Abdul Kapoor (39) of the Pettai area from a hide-out and seized the explosives from his possession. He was working in a private firm at Chennai and came here a few days ago. — UNI/PTI
