New Delhi, July 8
The BJP has asked the Congress-led UPA government to seek a vote of confidence immediately since the Left has formally withdrawn its support.
BJP president Rajnath Singh issued a statement here today announcing that he would shortly lead a party delegation to President Pratibha Patil asking her to direct the government to seek the vote of confidence since it had been reduced to a minority. He also called for convening a special session of Parliament in which “Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should seek a vote of confidence.”
He summoned an emergency meeting of the party’s office-bearers to discuss the present political scenario and draft its future strategy.
Terming the Congress-Left alliance as unholy, Rajnath Singh said: “The sole purpose of Congress-Left alliance was to oppose the BJP. It was certain that this alliance will break. Today’s decision of the Left parties was only a belated decision and action”, he said.
He of course did not acquit the Left of the responsibility of “ruining the country” and said: “With the active support from the Left parties, the Congress had ruined the country’s image both nationally and internationally.”
