SHO held for rape, suspended
Tribune News Service & PTI

Karnal, June 26
Nissing SHO Jai Singh was arrested for allegedly raping a married woman of Nissing town here today. He has been suspended and an inquiry ordered against him.

After the incident, enraged villagers and activists of opposition parties gheraoed the police station and raised slogans against the police and the government.

Karnal SSP A.S. Chawla said the girl had married a man from another caste and was subsequently provided with adequate police security on court orders.

However, the security was withdrawn about one and a half months ago on her insistence that her parents had been pacified over their inter-caste marriage.

He said the couple used to visit the Nissing police station regularly to meet her parents for security reasons.

On reaching the police station this morning, she found that her parents had not reached there.

In her complaint, she further alleged that the police official victimised her after her husband left the police station for some work in the town.

Chawla confirmed that the medical examination of the victim had been conducted.
