Tribune News Service

Dehra Dun, June 23
Six pilgrims on way to Hemkund Sahib shrine in Garhwal Himalayas were killed and a dozen others injured when a glacier moved from its place and fell on them near Hemkund Sahib this evening.

According to Chamoli district magistrate, the incident occurred due to heavy rains in the entire state for the past few days. Earlier, two scooter-borne Sikh pilgrims were also killed when boulders fell on them in Rudraprayag district of Garhwal three days ago.

“There could be many more pilgrims who may be buried under the snow and efforts are on to rescue them,” the DM said.

The police and civil authorities have rushed to the spot that is believed to be near the Hemkund shrine.

The injured have been shifted to Ganghria base hospital.
