Oil marketing firms hike prices
Chandigarh, June 6
The oil marketing companies, Indian Oil Corporation, Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum, have hiked the prices of premium petrol by Rs 6 per litre and of premium diesel by Rs 3.50-4.25 per litre. Since these premium fuels (high performance petrol and diesel mixed with additives) are outside the purview of price control, the prices are loosely pegged to normal petrol and diesel price.

New Delhi, June 6
Inflation climbed to 8.24 per cent, a new high in 45 months, although essential food items like fruits and vegetables and spices turned cheaper, making the government think of more steps to ease prices.

Acquisition of farmland for industry
Purchase directly from farmers: HC
Chandigarh, June 6
State action of forcibly acquiring agricultural land for setting up industries has failed to find favour with the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The high court has made it clear that entrepreneurs interested in establishing units on “particular” chunks of land “must” hold negotiations with farmers. It has also held that the provision of law entitling the state to acquire farmers’ land for setting up industries was not “comprehensible”.
