BJP seeks Centre’s intervention

New Delhi, May 26
The BJP, faced with four days of continuous Gujjar agitation in its backyard Rajasthan, was desperately trying to pass the ball into the court of the Central government led by rival Congress party.

BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said here today, “The Centre should take some serious stand on this” (the demand of the Gujjars for being included among the Scheduled Tribes for reservation purposes). He said, “The Centre should also take a positive response. The Centre and the state should jointly handle such an explosive situation”.

Prasad’s remarks appeared like a firefighting operation to soften the impact of its state Chief Minister Vasundhra Raje’s warning to the Gujjar agitators of “dire consequences.” This had led an outcry of protest against the Chief Minister.
