Gurgaon, May 18
In a tragic incident, a dust storm last night claimed 13 lives in the Farukhnagar area when a newly built concrete wall of an under-construction warehouse collapsed.
The police has registered a case against Kalpana Infrastructure Private Limited, the firm which was constructing the warehouse. The wall allegedly collapsed due to use of substandard material.
The district administration has announced a relief of Rs 50,000 each to the families of the deceased. A relief of Rs 5,000 has been announced to each of the 26 injured. Besides, they will be provided treatment free of cost.
Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has sent his condolences to the grief-stricken families.
Deputy commissioner Rakesh Gupta has ordered an inquiry to be conducted by SDM (I) J.S. Sangwan.
The victims were sleeping in temporary sheds along the wall when the incident occurred around 11 pm. Five of them died on the spot while the others succumbed to injuries in the hospital.
Of the injured, four were referred to Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi, in a serious condition. Seven with minor injuries were discharged after first aid. The remaining 15 injured were admitted to the civil hospital, Gurgaon.
