In a setback to the government, the Supreme Court today struck
down a law used to ease out noted cardiologist P. Venugopal as
Director of the prestigious All India Institute of Medical
Sciences (AIIMS) after a bitter row with health minister
Anbumani Ramadoss.

has asked the Punjab government to tell it what it proposes to do with
its tainted police officers. Taking a serious view of their continuation
on plum postings in alleged violation of the Punjab Police Act, 2007, a
Division Bench today ruled that propriety demanded their removal or
transfer.

13th chief of the Shiromani Panth Akali Budha Dal (Panjwan
Takhat) and 90- year- old legendary Nihang leader Baba Santa
Singh died at Rajindra Hospital here around 4 pm after
prolonged illness. Baba
Santa Singh had hogged limelight when he had agreed to
undertake “kar sewa” of Akal Takht building in Amritsar
after ‘Operation Bluestar’ in 1984 and subsequently, had
drawn wrath of several Sikh organisations for his act.
