HC wants to know what is being done about tainted cops

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has asked the Punjab government to tell it what it proposes to do with its tainted police officers. Taking a serious view of their continuation on plum postings in alleged violation of the Punjab Police Act, 2007, a Division Bench today ruled that propriety demanded their removal or transfer.

40 die as bus falls into Chenab river
Udhampur, May 8
At least 40 persons, including six of a family, were feared killed and five others injured when an overloaded video coach rolled down the river Chenab at Wardha village, about 15 km from Kishtwar town, this afternoon.

The 13th chief of the Shiromani Panth Akali Budha Dal (Panjwan Takhat) and 90- year- old legendary Nihang leader Baba Santa Singh died at Rajindra Hospital here around 4 pm after prolonged illness. Baba Santa Singh had hogged limelight when he had agreed to undertake “kar sewa” of Akal Takht building in Amritsar after ‘Operation Bluestar’ in 1984 and subsequently, had drawn wrath of several Sikh organisations for his act.
