Over 12 students of Guru Arjun Dev Girls Senior Secondary School, Sarai Mohalla, were injured when the roof of Class XII collapsed on them this afternoon. A teacher, Seema Sharda, who was holding the class at the time of the incident, was also injured.
Hearing shrieks of the victims after a big thud, students and teachers in the adjacent rooms rushed to the spot. To prevent entry of the outsiders, the school management locked the gates of the school premises and shifted certain injured students to the local Civil Hospital. Some of the victims were taken to private hospitals.
According to the eyewitnesses, the school management locked the class. It took only three students to the Civil Hospital while sent the other injured students to their homes, in an effort to hush up the case.
However, the parents five victims brought them to the hospital after their condition deteriorated. Eight students have been admitted to the civil hospital while one is undergoing treatment in a private hospital.
Pathankot SP Harpreet Singh rushed to the spot and asked the hospital staff to get CT scans of the injured students done.
Local MLA and transport minister Master Mohan Lal Sharma enquired after the injured. He pulled up the school management for holding classes in unsafe rooms.
The minister has asked the sub-divisional magistrate to probe the roof collapse.
The school management and staff were tightlipped about the incident.
