Visa applications of Sarabjit’s kin sent to Islamabad

New Delhi, April 15
The Pakistan High Commission has forwarded the visa applications of the kin of Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh, who is on death row, to Islamabad for clearance. “I spoke to the Pakistan High Commission officials today. They informed me that our visa applications have been sent to Islamabad and it will get back to us as soon as it hears from the government there,” said Singh’s sister Dalbir Kaur, who has been campaigning for his release.

Singh’s wife Sukhbir Kaur, their two daughters Swapandeep and Poonam, Dalbir Kaur and her husband Baldev Singh had applied to the Pakistan High Commission for visa on April 10, hoping to go across the border and meet him.

Singh, who is lodged in a Lahore jail, was sentenced to death for his alleged involvement in 1990 serial blasts in Lahore and Multan.

His hanging was, however, stayed till April 30 after the Indian government took up his case with the Pakistan authorities. — PTI
