Fortis fined Rs 2 lakh
Hospital also told to refund fee of Rs 2.27 lakh to patient
Chandigarh, April 9
Much-hyped heart care of Fortis Hospital has come under a sharp focus with the Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum holding the hospital guilty of gross negligence in a heart surgery and imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh. The forum has also directed the hospital to refund hospital fees of Rs 2.27 lakh to a resident of Sector 44 for unfair trade practice.

Health scheme for BPL families soon
Chandigarh, April 9
The Chandigarh Administration is all set to launch “Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojna” aiming to provide health insurance cover to below poverty line (BPL) families. Around 300 BPL families will benefit from this scheme.

The recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission have resulted in “serious discontentment” brewing in the rank and file of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Annual function of Gaudiya Math today

The 38th annual function of Sree Chaitanya Gaudiya Math, Sector 20, will be held tomorrow on the math premises. A five-day spiritual public meeting will also be held along with the function. The public meetings will continue till April 15. The spate of thefts continue unabated in the township. While yesterday three vehicles were stolen from various places in Mohali, today residents reported three separate incidents of theft. Ajmer Kaur, a resident of Phase I, found her house broken into and cash and jewelley worth Rs 20,000 missing.

Man found dead
Zirakpur, April 9
A resident of a colony here was found dead outside his rented accommodation. The victim Raj Kumar is believed to have died after he fell from the roof of his house.

Signature campaign begins today

The chain fast of teachers and students of Panjab University entered the third day today, demanding central university status for Panjab University. Prof G.S. Brar, chairman, department of physical education, Dr Kuldip Puri, DCS, and Dr Lallan Baghel from the department of philosophy were among the teachers who sat on the chain fast whereas Tanya Sharma from department of English, and Stanzin Dochom from department of laws were from amongst the students.

Shooting in court: HC quashes FIR
Chandigarh, April 9
Nearly 10 years after the retort of gunshots had echoed against the walls of the Sector 17 district courts complex, Justice H.S. Bhalla of the Punjab and Haryana High Court today quashed the first information report (FIR) registered in the matter by the Chandigarh Police. The details of the order, allowing the petition for quashing the FIR filed by Shiromani Akali Dal Muktsar’s then president Manjit Singh Barkandi and five others, was not yet available.

Army vehicle hits bike, kills youth

A 22-year-old resident of Mubarakpur village was killed here this morning when his bike was hit by an Army vehicle on the national highway. The victim Manek, who was working as an assistant with a Chandigarh-based lawyer, was going to Chandigarh from his residence this morning when the accident took place.

Beheaded body found at rly station

The beheaded body of an unidentified youth in his mid-twenties was found on the railway platform number 1 at 2 am here yesterday. The police, so far, has ruled out any foul play. However, it was yet to ascertain whether it was an accident or a case of suicide.
