After
a three-day drama, BKU leader Mahendra Singh Tikait today
reportedly surrendered before the chief judicial magistrate in
Bijnore and was granted bail on a surety of Rs 20,000 by the
sessions court. While Chief Minister Mayawati claimed to have
arrested the BKU leader from his native village, Sisauli in
Muzffarnagar district, this morning, reports suggest

Capt’s
murder: Husband held Jammu, April 2
The police today
claimed to have solved the suicide case of a female Army
officer, Captain Megha Razdan, by arresting her husband, who
too was serving as an Army officer, Captain Chaitanya
Bhatwadekar, in the same unit. “We have arrested Captain
Chaitanya Bhatwadekar, husband of Captain Megha Razdan under
section 306 and 389 A of the Ranbir Penal Court for abetting
her to commit suicide,” said Jammu SSP Parminder Singh.

Karnataka polls from May 10 State is the first to
go to polls after delimitation New Delhi, April 2
The elections to the
224-member Vidhan Sabha in Karnataka will be held in three
phases in May and these will be the first elections in the
country with the recently delimited constituencies. The Chief
Election Commissioner, N. Gopalaswami, announced the elections
here today.

Congress politics in Punjab
is on the boil. Former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, who has
been criticising the functioning of Punjab Pradesh Congress
Committee president Rajinder Kaur Bhattal today met Congress
president Sonia Gandhi in Delhi for 40 minutes. Besides him,
Congress MLA from Nabha Randeep Singh also met Sonia, it is
learnt.
IAF
story: Forged papers, fake spares Chandigarh, April 2
On July 8, 2005, an IAF helicopter
engaged for a VIP flight was involved in an incident, where the engine
had to be switched-off due to malfunctioning of the fuel control unit (FCU).
Of the 20 such FCUs procured by the IAF from May 2004, to May 2005, for
its Russian origin helicopters, as many as 19 FCUs, valuing Rs 1.38
crore were reported to be spurious by the operating units.
