New Delhi, March 28
The high-security area near the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) here witnessed some tense moments today as a Delhi policeman was shot at and injured allegedly by a colleague.

The incident took place around 11 am when head constable Sanjay Kumar received a gunshot wound in his left thigh. The police believes it to be a case of accidental firing but constable Surajpal, who allegedly shot at Sanjay, has been detained for questioning.

According to sources, Surajpal, who is on the verge of retirement, was demonstrating to the Delhi police commando Sanjay Kumar that the first chamber of his revolver is kept empty.

However, while pressing the trigger, the bullet, in the supposed to be empty chamber fired and pierced through Sanjay’s left thigh. The PM was not inside the office when the incident occurred.

Sanjay, posted in the 3rd battalion of the Delhi Armed Police, was shot at inside the duty change room near the PMO. He was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital, where his condition is stated to be out of danger. “Only one shot was fired and we are investigating the matter”, said DCP (New Delhi district) Anand Mohan.
