CMCH admn panel resigns en masse
Kuldip Bhatia

Ludhiana, March 14
The CMCH management crisis deepened here this evening when the chairman, director and principal, along with several office-bearers, resigned over a series of controversies engulfing the renowned health institution of the state.

The stand-off between the management and a section of employees of the CMCH took a dramatic turn when the director Dr John Pramod, principal Dr John Abrahm and several senior officials resigned when the two-day meeting of the governing body was coming to an end late this evening.

The governing body is learnt to have accepted the resignations in the wake of allegations of financial bungling, sale of CMCH land, privatisation of a number of departments and irregularities in the purchase of equipment and supplies.

The governing body ordered an independent inquiry, which is expected to be completed within a month. Meanwhile, Rajinder Gyani has been appointed chairman, while former principal of CMC, Dr Abrahm Thomas, has been appointed principal-cum-acting director.

Dr John Pramod told The Tribune that he, along with other senior officials, had put in papers voluntarily in the interest of the institution, and he had insisted that an inquiry be conducted into the allegations levelled against him to bring out the truth.

The chairman of the governing body Bishop Joel V Mal was also understood to have resigned from his post.

An emergency meeting of the governing body has been called on April 29 to deliberate on the issue.
