In an act of solidarity with his comrades, rebel Congress MP Kuldeep Bishnoi today quit the Lok Sabha. Bishnoi had sent in his resignation from the Lok Sabha on December 2 last when he had announced the formation of his separate party, Haryana Janhit Congress (BL), at a rally held in Rohtak.

Drunk baratis burn 10-yr-old boy to death

In an incident that has sent shock waves through the city, a 10-year-old boy, who protested against his bicycle being damaged in an accident, was burnt alive in Alipur village allegedly by some members of a marriage party yesterday.

Barak deal: Nanda, son sent to custody

Arms dealers Suresh Nanda and his son Sanjeev, accused in the Barak missile deal pay-off case, were sent to 14 days judicial custody today by a special CBI court. After hearing the bail application of the accused, CBI Special Judge Indermeet Kaur Kochar send all accused to judicial custody, after their earlier three days police remand.

India today condemned the US State Department’s latest annual report on human rights, which has listed the Nandigram violence among the worst cases of rights violations in India in 2007. The CPM and the CPI quickly seized the opportunity to lambast the US for ‘grave interference of internal affairs of India by the Bush administration’.

State Bank of Patiala is in poor state
Chandigarh, March 14
Business at the State Bank of Patiala is on a sharp decline. As the financial year draws to a close, the bank is short of Rs 3,080 crore in deposits and Rs 2,223 crore in advances. In addition, around Rs 4,000 crore worth of high cost deposits are due to mature during this month. Top officials in the bank admit that they may not be able to roll them over because of the high costs prevailing in the banking industry.
