Another Tragedy at Unmanned Crossing
3 students die

Ludhiana, March 13
Three students were killed when a passenger train coming from Ludhiana to Ahmedgarh collided with a car at the unmanned level crossing near Gill railway station today. The accident took place 2.30 pm. The deceased were identified as Manpreet Singh of Bachiter Singh Nagar, Sarabjit Kaur of Bhai Himmat Singh Nagar and Major Singh of nearby Kila Raipur.

The black Esteem car (PB 10 AA 0982) was pushed away 200 metres and reduced to mangles. Sajjan Singh Cheema, SP City (III), said the three were studying at private institutes in Ludhiana. Sarabjit Kaur was a BCA student.

Major Singh was at the wheel at the time of the mishap. A liquor bottle and some eatables were found in the car.

The rail track remained blocked for more than an hour after the accident. A police party led by Jang Jit Singh, SHO, Sadar, pulled out the three victims before the arrival of a relief party.

The GRP has registered a case under Sections 279 and 304-A of the IPC. The crossing is among the 21,800 unmanned in the country.
