Indian student ends life in US: Police

Karimnagar (AP)/New York, March 4
An Andhra Pradesh medico, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Pennsylvania in the US, apparently committed suicide, the police claimed today after earlier reports said he was murdered.

The body of Akkaldevi Srinivas (29), hailing from Korutla in Karimnagar district, was found in a pool of blood with stab wounds on his neck on Saturday last, according to a friend in Scranton State University where he was pursuing a post-graduation course in internal medicine.

Preliminary findings pointed to suicide, police sources said without giving details. The sources speaking to PTI in New York said a suicide note was found. An MBBS student of 1995 batch of Gandhi Medical College in Hyderabad, Srinivas had joined Scranton State University in 2005 after completing his MS. He went to the US in 2002.

The victim’s father Anjaiah has left for the US to bring the body after the family received the shocking news on Sunday.

New Delhi: Meanwhile, India tonight expressed serious concern over the death and said it would take up the matter with the US administration. “It is a matter of serious concern. We will take it up with the US government. It is the duty of the US government to protect Indian students there,” minister for overseas affairs Vayalar Ravi said tonight. — PTI
