Islamabad, February 28
A missile strike early today on a religious seminary and a house in Pakistan’s troubled South Waziristan tribal region killed at least 13 persons and injured several others.
The missile hit a madrasa and a house in the Azam Warsak area of South Waziristan at 2 am when the seminary’s students were asleep, local residents and officials said. The powerful explosion shook the entire area.
Local officials confirmed to Dawn News channel that 13 persons had died in the attack that occurred in a village located about 15 km from Wana, the headquarters of the tribal agency.
The officials said 10 of the dead were Arabs and the rest were from Pakistan’s Punjab province.
Local residents said they believed the missile could have been fired from a drone or pilot less aircraft they had heard flying over the area shortly before the attack.
