Dawood man convicted

New Delhi, February 15
Romesh Sharma, alleged frontman of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, was today convicted by a Delhi court for hatching a conspiracy to murder his fashion designer girlfriend Kunjum Budhiraja.

Five others - his nephew Surinder Mishra, Hemchand, Santram, Ramesh and Tejinder Virdi, alias Dolly - were also found guilty of being involved in the conspiracy.

They were convicted under Sections 302 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code.

Kunjum was shot on March 29, 1999, when she went to offer prayers at a temple at Sharma’s south Delhi farmhouse.

The court fixed February 18 for hearing arguments on the quantum of the sentence.

Another accused, Jaspreet Virdi, alias Sonu, was acquitted for lack of evidence. — PTI
