Mumbai, February 14
Sanjay Dutt’s wedding with Manyata has been declared void by the Goan government after it was detected that the two had submitted fake certificates to facilitate the marriage.
Today the authorities suspended the talathi of Salcette taluka for issuing residence certificates to the two which stated that both were residents of Goa.
Today, the mamlatdar of Salcette ordered the Salcete Civil Registration Office to halt the registration process of the two as the Residential
Certificate issued by talathi was bogus. Usually, the certificate is issued by mamlatdar.
Under the Portuguese Common Civil Code which is in force in Goa, civil registration of all marriages is compulsory before the marriage. The application for registering marriage should be accompanied by a residential certificate.
However today, officials said from Goa that talathi Prashant Kunkolienkar had violated the rules by stating that the two were residents of Goa.
Sanjay Dutt had stated that he was a resident of Aquem-Alto, Margao, while Manyata said she was living at Gogal, Margao.
According to the law in force, civil
registration of marriage is finalized after objections are entertained. After the news came to light, residents complained about the discrepancies.
Sources say, documents submitted by Manyata were not in order. In the registration certificate she had mentioned that she was unmarried, while in her
affidavit of marriage she had declared her marital status as divorcee. According to the rules the divorcees have to submit her decree and final judgement if they are divorcees.
The mamlatdar of Goa has now issued orders not to issue the marriage certificate to Dutt and Manyata.
