Telgi gets 10-yr RI

Chennai, January 30
After admitting the guilty plea of counterfeiting stamp papers, the special CBI court here today sentenced fake stamp paper scam kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi to 10-year rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 3 crore.

His three other associates, Abdul Wahid, Jacob Chacko and Balaji, were sentenced to five years in prison, while another accused, Peter Kennedy, got a three-year prison term.

They had also pleaded guilty of counterfeiting judicial and non-judicial stamp papers and court fee stamps and cheating the public using such fake documents.

The sentencing was done through video conferencing by special CBI court judge N. Velu, since Telgi, Wahid and Chacko are lodged in the famous Yeravada Prison in Pune.

The judge said Telgi’s sentence would run concurrently with another prison term which he was already serving.
