Snowfall in Solan, Kasauli
Our Correspondent

Solan, January 30
The district received the season’s first snowfall with Kasauli, Chail, Dagshai, Barog, Vaknaghat, Kaithlighat and Solan wearing a white mantle in the afternoon today. Though the snow did not stay for too long, it brought cheers to the residents.

Solan residents were jubilant at the snowfall witnessed after around 12 years. At Kasauli, Chail and Kaithlighat etc., it presented picturesque scenes with the entire landscape wearing a white mantle. Tourists, who had rushed in from Chandigarh and its surrounding area, were seen busy capturing the scenic beauty in their cameras. The very sight of snowflakes during the day was a rare occurrence. It brought life to a standstill as people came out of their offices and houses to witness the scene. The light snowfall that lasted for around 90 minutes pushed the mercury further down.

The town witnessed a minimum temperature of -1°C, while the maximum was 13.2°C.

After 61 yrs, Harlog turns white: Harlog, around 18 km from Bilaspur town, witnessed snowfall for about two minutes at 5 pm today. The place is said to have experienced this freak phenomenon after 61 years.

Elders said it was in 1946 that the area had witnessed snowfall last time. All nearby hills were covered with snow at that time, they added.

Today, some fleeting snow-loaded cloud gave a surprising experience to the villagers. As children danced in joy, elders were seen worrying about their crops.
