UPA flayed for denying Bharat Ratna to Vajpayee
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, January 27
The BJP today criticised the Congress-led UPA government for not conferring Bharat Ratna on former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee saying the “UPA has got a small heart”.

“We don’t want to politicise the issue…but we feel that the UPA has got a small heart,” BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad told mediapersons here.

“In the past over 50 years, Vajpayee has done an impeccable service to the country and people and he is an elderly statesman who deserved the recognition (Bharat Ratna),” Prasad said.

The Leader of the Opposition and Prime Ministerial candidate of the NDA had recently written a letter to the government urging it to confer Bharat Ratna on Vajpayee.

This had in fact opened Pandora’s box with various political parties seeking the country’s biggest honour for their own leaders.
