Gurgaon, January 27
The Haryana police has constituted over 10 police teams to trap the movement of the mastermind of the interstate kidney racket, Amit Kumar, which was exposed two days ago by the joint teams of the Moradabad and Gurgaon police.

Police commissioner, Gurgaon, Mohinder Lal revealed that the police was working on many theories, including Kumar’s going out of the country by using his international links.

He further said so far the police had not been able to trace the whereabouts of Kumar. However, he would not be able to escape the legal channels, Lal said, adding that the police was coordinating with various agencies to nab the accused.

Lal said Kumar owned two hospitals in Gurgaon under the banner of Liberty Health Care Pvt Ltd, located 5 km apart, both of which were raided yesterday. The police recovered some documents and records of the patients treated by him.

Sources in the police said the team was minutely scrutinising records to know whether the names detected had already got kidney transplantation done or were in the queue to get operated by the team of Kumar.

He said the police was preparing a database about the previous records of Kumar which would throw a light on his alleged illegal activities.

While talking to mediapersons yesterday at the ‘At home’ function, Chief Minster Bhupinder Singh Hooda said he was shocked that such a big racket was running from here. The state police was working on various aspects of the case to trace the mastermind behind the racket.

Special team in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The special police team, investigating the kidney racket in Gurgaon, arrived in the city. According to police sources here, the team would collect information of recent cases filed in several police stations in connection with the organ trade and kidney transplantation and donors’ lists from hospitals performing organ transplantation surgeries.

The Gurgaon police had confirmed that the kingpin of the kidney racket Amit Kumar and Jiwan Kumar (both surgeons), Upendra Kumar (physician) and Saraj Kumar (anaesthetist) had been arrested thrice earlier on the charge of illegal human organ transplants in Delhi, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. — UNI
