The Doaba Co-operative Milk Producers Union limited has enhanced the price of four categories of “Verka” brand of milk by Rs one per litre from January 15. Though it has not affected sales of milk so far but the decision has overburdened the consumers are feeling the pinch.

With an aim to improve the standard of sports in the state, the Punjab state sports department has finally taken some concrete steps and decided to recruit as many as 169 coaches in all the districts for various games, on contract basis.

Jan 25: Savour Pak theatre flavour
Jalandhar, January 22
It would be a union of two cultures and traditions at the local Desh Bhagat Yaadgaar Hall on January 25 when Pakistan-based “mass theatre”, Lahore, would perform on the eve of pre-January 26, as a salute to the revolutionary ideals of the freedom fighters. An annual affair since 1984, every year the event is dedicated to one freedom fighter. “This time we have dedicated the event to Lal Singh Dil, a renowned poet who died recently,” said Amolak Singh, trustee, Desh Bhagat Yaadgaar Hall Committee.

A two-day science fair, on the theme ‘Science and Technology for sustainable development’, was organised at the DAV College, Jalandhar. Students of more than 20 schools participated in the fair in which more than 100 models and experiments were on display. Students of DSSD senior secondary school, Basti Nau, Jalandhar bagged first position for their model ‘Disaster alerts and their management’. The model was prepared by Dhanraj Verma, Jyoti Swaroop and Inderjeet.

Rupinder Kaur Dhot is delighted after visiting Japan on a special tour under the “Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange Students Programme.” A student of class IX at Christ Jyoti Convent School on Gazipur road in Sultanpur Lodhi, Kapurthala, Rupinder was among the 27 Indian students who recently visited Japan for 10 days under the programme.
