Job quota in pvt firms in UP Lucknow, January 18 This makes Uttar Pradesh not only the first state in the country to implement job reservation in the private sector but also the first to make it compulsory for companies to get government contracts on outsourcing work. Briefing the media about this decision taken by her cabinet Mayawati said that now adhering to the job reservation criteria would be part of the contract under which the job would be given to a private company. She said that her government would soon develop a set of norms so that job reservation could effectively be implemented in the private sector. According to her it would now be mandatory for any private organisation carrying out work on behalf of government, semi government, public sector or corporations to reserve 30 per cent of the jobs. Of this, 10 per cent are being earmarked for the SCs, 10 per cent for OBCs and religious minorities and the remaining 10 per cent for the economically weak amongst the upper castes. “This is one more step towards fulfilling my government’s dream of a ‘sarvjan hitaye, sarvjan sukhaye’,” said the CM. Underling the need to introduce this policy Mayawati pointed out that with increasing privatisation and disinvestments the government sector was gradually shrinking where jobs were reserved for the socially and economically deprived sections of society. “To widen the economic space for them and help them partake a share of the growing economic cake, reservation in the private sector has been visualized,” declared the CM. On August 10, 2007, Mayawati’s cabinet had decided that a similar job reservation policy for the private sector would be a prerequisite if they were to avail of any benefit from the government. ‘Sarvjan hitaye, sarvjan sukhaye’ It would now be mandatory for any private organisation carrying out work on behalf of the government, semi-government, public sector or corporations to reserve 30% of the jobs. 10% for the SCs 10% for OBCs/ religious minorities The remaining 10% for the economically weak amongst the upper castes. |
